You know all those artsy photos of your cat, or the MySpace-esque bathroom self-portraits littering your Flickr account? They might actually be worth something.

Getty Images will be trolling the online photo site to find shots worthy of a commercial licensing deal. In the next few months, Getty will extend invites to Flickr members, who will then have the opportunity to participate in a collection created by the photo house. Getty will become the exclusive commercial rights manager of the photos.

“Flickr is the ideal partner as we continue to move the imagery industry forward by offering the broadest range of high quality digital content to our customers,” Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images, said in a statement.

Technology details are still sketchy. Getty and Yahoo, which owns Flickr, are currently building online tools that will help editors contact Flickr members and add images to their new collection.

Yahoo! predicted that thousands of images will be available for licensing on gettyimages.com in the coming months.

“Getty Images offers an unbeatable platform, licensing expertise, and a premier brand for Flickr members who want to bring their imagery to a worldwide customer base,” said Kakul Srivastava, general manager for Flickr.

Fiberglass Millstone Fountain.

Fiberglass Millstone Fountain.

I’ve wanted a millstone for ages. It’s the best way I can think of adding a water feature that would be safe around the kids. However, they’re rare and quite expensive. This one is fiberglass! And only 25 lbs. Hmmmmm…

Go Kiva!
